God is not generous to democracy, or democracy does not start from a sense of thanksgiving. One day in ancient times, the Children of Israel aspired to be like other peoples: they wanted a king. It was as though God was withholding a boon: for there forever to be a leader, someone like, they say, the President of the Republic of Indonesia-who has an angel at his breast and thus deserves a thorn of glory.
