THE more strenuously that religion enters conversation, the more important it seems to be for people to rediscover the lost cave. I think this is what I found when reading the story of Hayy Ibnu Yaqzan written by Ibnu Tufayl, the 12th century Spanish philosopher.

In the story we meet a boy who has been thrown into the sea by his terrified mother. The baby is washed up on an uninhabited equatorial island. There he is cared for by a doe. She suckl
