EVEN in its most brutal form, politics holds a greeting. There are always others to be greeted or answered. Power always demands the presence of the ‘subject’.

There is a section in Antoine de St. Exupéry’s The Little Prince when the prince is traveling to some asteroids near his own. The story tells of him meeting a king who lives all alone on a tiny object in space, sitting lonely on the throne. Seeing someone arrive, he calls out happi
