One day Manuel Vargas Jr went to a hospital in Singapore for a bladder examination. He had to fill in a form at the registration desk: full name, date of birth, cellphone number....
He had no trouble answering all the questions, except for one column: race. He was taken aback. He, a psychology lecturer from a university in Manila, was shocked that in 2017 'race' was still required in medical research.
He thought for a moment and then wrote 'Malay'.
