He came to be known as Ibn Arabi, the renowned Sufi, and the much older philosopher was Ibn Rushd.

Ibn Arabi was born in Murcia in Andalusia on July 28, 1165, when Spain was still basking in glory of literature and ideas, when King Philip II had not yet wiped out Islam, when Islam itself had not yet quelled its own fire, when philosophy had not ceased questioning, and when Sufis were not yet marginalized as guardians of fiqih.
