From this angle, Game of Thrones, the HBO cinematic production, is a counter-narrative. Superhero films are fantasies about super people. Game of Thrones is about people who are defective.
Maybe this is why it is interesting. Unlike the great epic the Mahabharata, it is not a tale of ambition and heroism in fighting for the throne. Game of Thrones is a story of the traumatic process of becoming human.
