HER son was dead, murdered, and the mother wept, took off her veil, bent over, and held him. The 13th century Iranian poet Fakruddin Attar depicts this scene as one of not only sorrow, but also anger:

Her back was bent like a bow,

Shooting the arrow of her suffering to heaven

When someone chastises her and orders her to put her veil back on, the woman says :

If the fire burned in your liver as it burns in mine, My actions would not
