The Indonesian Human Development Index for 2007 rose from last year. This is a good sign, because this index created by Amartya Sen, a Nobel Prize winner from India, and Mahbub ul Haq, a Pakistani economist, measures the quality of life in a given country: life expectancy, literacy rate, access to education, and living standard. Economic growth and the inflation rate in Indonesia in 2007 were also better than in the previous year.
