The Environment: Hope for a Bright New Dawn

Indonesia's land size is just 1.3 percent of the earth's surface but hosts more than 15 percent of the earth's biodiversity. It is also very rich in natural resources, which is critically coveted by the modern world's lifestylea prosperity base for its 250 million people and a critical pillar of the planet's current form of existence.

The year 2015 saw a great turn of events. It is the first full year of President Joko Widodo's term and there are demands to realize his campaign promises. In the environment management field, it was a disappointment and a big confusion. While environment issues were mentioned and the right of the communities closest to the land and forest featured high, the pragmatically defined national priorities has not been put into any action beyond some policy statements and partial sectoral actions.
