Almost 130 kilometers of paved roads extend into the center of agricultural land in East Luwu Regency in South Sulawesi. They go from the Malili Subdistrict of Angkona, Mangkutana, Tomoni, through to the one of Wotu. "Road construction is being extended. Almost all access roads to our residential areas are now paved," East Luwu resident Alpian told us in mid-April.

Since East Luwu Regency became autonomous in 2003, infrastructure development became a priority. The division between rural and urban areas vanished with the construction of roads into the interior. Admittedly, not everything went smoothly. But, when Tempo went there recently, at least no muddy or rocky roads were evident.
