A PIECE of letter revealed Soe Hok Gie's angst over the tragedy befalling Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) sympathizers during the 1965-1968 years. In the letter dated March 20, 1968, to Herbert Feith, an Australian friend with whom he had many discussions and who later wrote various articles about Indonesia, Hok Gie condemned the brutal massacre in Purwodadi, Grobogan Regency, Central Java.
