AGRICULTURE, particularly plantations, serves as the economic basis of Tebo regency, Jambi province. In 2002, plantations contributed Rp166 billion. Forty-four percent of the manpower in the regency with a population (in 2004) of 236,344 has for generations relied on this estate sector as livelihood. Forty-five percent of Tebo’s total area of 6,461 km2 takes the form of plantations.
