BEAR SANCTUARY

A SUN bear (Helarctos malayanus) searching for food at the Balikpapan Environmental and Educational Tourism Area (KWPLH), East Kalimantan, Friday, February 16. The East Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Office established the Balikpapan KWPLH as a conservation site for sun bears confiscated by the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) from individuals who illegally kept the animal but could not be released due to injuries from traps or changes in behavior.
