TRIBUTE TO THE SEA

RESIDENTS use boats to travel out to sea to perform the offering ceremony as part of the traditional sea offering ritual in the waters of Tanjung Emas, Semarang, Central Java, Sunday, June 2. The sea offering tradition, participated in by hundreds of Tambaklorok fishermen, involves bringing various types of offerings and then tossing or floating them into the middle of the waters of Tanjung Emas, known for its abundance of fish, as an expression of thanksgiving for the abundant fish in the sea.
