A FLEET of decorated boats sails through the waters of Tidore Islands, North Maluku, during the Lufu Kie Ritual procession, April 9, 2025. The maritime journey, led by the Tidore Sultanate, involves pilgrimage and prayers at sacred sea sites known as jere. Held as part of the 917th anniversary of Tidore, the ritual also serves as a cultural tourism showcase aimed at boosting the region’s historical appeal to visitors.
