MUSLIMS perform the first tarawih prayer in the Ramadan fasting month, which coincides with the Hindu’s Nyepi Day of Silence, in a resident’s house in Bugis village, Badung, Bali, Wednesday, March 22. Although the local customary village administration has granted permission for Muslims who live close to a mosque to carry out the tarawih prayer at the mosque, Muslims in the region agreed to pray in the homes of nearby residents to respect Hindus who observe the Catur Brata (four abstinences) during Nyepi.
