The series of earthquakes that hit different parts of Indonesia recently have shown us that traditional houses are far better equipped to withstand them than modern houses, which tend to collapse. It is for this reason that some architects are again studying Indonesia’s traditional architecture. Several meetings have been held to discuss traditional architecture and the strengths of such buildings. Indonesian architects are searching for materials as well as ways of building houses that are resistant to earthquakes.
