Goenawan Mohamad’s color drawings were curated for an exhibition titled Warna. This showed there is an alternative to the norm that colors are simply “insertions” in sketches and black-and-white drawings.

ON a wide canvas, colors can easily hold their own. On such a plane, forms may still take shape-blue for the ocean, green for paddy fields, ochre for soil. But these impressions do not mean that colors are dictated by shapes; a color arrives and greets on its own behalf. These characteristics are present in Srihadi Soedarsono's paintings, especially in the Horizon series, Borobudur, the solitary women's series and other thematic works from the 1980
