Internal conflicts have been the most violent of all conflicts. The number of casualties caused by internal disputes is also higher than those killed by terrorist acts or intra-state wars. For every soldier killed, at least nine civilians suffered the same fate. Most who suffer from internal conflicts are women, children and the poor. Since 1989, at least 4 million people in 30 countries were killed as a result of internal conflicts.
