THE Teng Chun, eldest son of businessman The Kim Ie, was born June 18, 1902, two years after the first cinema opened in Batavia. When he was in his teens, he was sent to New York to study commerce. While there, however, he got interested in cinematography. This subject amazed him when he and Fred Young took a lesson on how to write a film script. Later Young became his closest friend and both teamed up to produce dozens of films.
