Tony Prabowo, Goenawan Mohamad and Yudi Tadjudin have given a very modern interpretation of Calon Arang as an opera titled The Kings Witch, a performance involving US opera singers and orchestra.

THERE is no rangda (a goddess with power over death and destruction). There is no gamelan (traditional Balinese music) at all. There is no keris (dagger) being pierced into a body. Calon Arang, the Balinese folk tale, has been completely transformed anew.
