May 1, 1886Around 400,000 workers in the United States stage a protest demanding a reduction of work hours. Hundreds of protesters die because of the polices repressive action. Ever since, May 1 has been known as World Labor Day.
May 2, 1613Mikhail Romanov is crowned Russian Tsar replacing Fyodor I, the last king of the Rurik Dynasty. The Romanov Dynastys power ends in 1917 when Tsar Nicholas II is executed.
