December 11, 1946The United Nations International Childrens Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is established. Innitially, UNICEF was formed to help European children who suffrered after World War II. Today, UNICEF can be found in more than 150 countries.

December 12, 1963Kenya gains independence from Britain and the Kenyan African National Union Party (KANU) begins ruling. Jomo Kenyatta, a Kikuyu, is the first president and serves until 1978.
