MUCH has been written of late of the tears supposedly shed by the President as he listened to the stories told to him by the Lapindo mud victims. Some critics have dismissed them as crocodile tears intended as a PR gimmick to boost his flagging popularity. Others think the tears are too little and too late to be of any use to anybody, especially the victims who want immediate compensation not delayed sympathy.
