MY late grandmother was a pious woman, praying five times a day (and more!), fasting, giving alms, and going on the haj pilgrimage. She was also a very astute businesswoman. Selling handmade batik from home, she earned more than my grandfather did as a headmaster, even more so after he retired on a meager pension.
