Indonesian forests continue to suffer from unbridled logging. Destruction is rampant not only in production forests, but also in forests supposed to be protected and conserved. Each year between 1.6 million and 2.3 million hectares of forests are destroyed, producing in its wake 27.7 million hectares of critical land in production forests and 8.1 million hectares in protected forests.
