Indonesia has lived with terrorism for decades. Even before the enormous 2002 bomb blasts in Bali, terrorist attacks had made their mark on the country. And while no major attack has occurred since the 2009 twin hotel suicide bombings in Jakarta, the emergence of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and the continued threat from al Qaeda are poised to make 2015 a particularly tense year.
