Iman Sugema THE victory of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the presidential elections brings to mind the victory of Thaksin Shinawatra over Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai in a very democratic general election. Chuan was considered to have failed in overcoming poverty and unemployment in Thailand and was only relying on neo-liberal economic policies prescriptions sponsored by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
