Rice: To import or not to import?

Proposals in parliament to initiate an inquiry on the issue of rice imports continue to be debated. Cabinet disunity seems to be the root of the uproar.

The waves of interruptions at the House of Representatives (DPR) Building have been relentless. Although the Houses recess, which started on December 10, has just ended, the first plenary session of the year proceeded tumultuously last Thursday. Several members launched one interruption after another about rice imports, immediately after House Speaker Agung Laksono ended his speech.
