THE hope of owning some PT Freeport Indonesia shares increased when an item in a Jakarta newspaper was heard all the way in New York, on February 10. Vice President Jusuf Kalla expressed the governments desire to secure higher profits from Freeport. On that very day the share price of its holding company, Freeport McMoRan, plummeted at the New York Stock Exchange, by nearly 9 percent.
