BANDUNG, June 2, 1959. A wave of tension spread over Merdeka Building on Jalan Asia Afrika. Members of the Constitutional Assembly were deeply absorbed in a heated debate concerning the new Constitution. The Constitutional Assembly (Konstituante) had voted three times, whether to return to the 1945 Constitution or not.
