THE sound of a barely audible zikir could be heard coming from the official residence of Vice President Jusuf Kalla on Jalan Diponegoro in Central Jakarta on Wednesday last week. Along with Kalla, hundreds of santri (strict adherents to Islam) from the Golkar Party affiliated with the Islamic Proselytizing Council reverently and devotedly chanted a praise to Allah.
