This was the first atlas published in the Indonesian language after the republic became independent. A view of the world from Indonesia’s perspective.

THE invitation came from a friend far away in The Netherlands in early 1950. Mattheus van Randwijk, the Chief Editor and Director of the weekly magazine Vrij Nederland, asked Djamaludin Adinegoro to come to Holland. Randwijk had an important project in mind. Together with Cornelis de Koning, a colleague at Vrij Nederland, he wanted to increase the publication of books for Indonesia. One idea was to produce an atlas.
