In a report compiled by the American embassy soon after the 1965 coup in Jakarta, under the heading 'What Really Happened', there is a sentence that reads : "The maxim the truth will out has never had much validity in Indonesia."  Derogatory in retrospect, yet accurate in terms of the New Order which then was about to engulf Indonesia, this sentence hopefully will be proven wrong in reformist Indonesia today.
