INDONESIA’S forests are in an alarming condition. According to the Forest Research & Development Institute, from a total of 137 million hectares, approximately 1.08 million hectares of forest are destroyed every year. The cause: forest clearing for farms and plantations, illegal logging and forest fires. Even Greenpeace places Indonesia as the third-largest carbon emitter in the world.
