The existence of the Coordinating Committee, the body that ordered the Savings Guarantee Board to deal with Bank Century, has been judged to be unlawful. A number of DPR members are preparing to grill the Finance Minister.

FINANCE Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has an analogy to depict the systemic effect if Bank Century had not been bailed out. She likens it to a burning house. According to Sri Mulyani, even though the owner has committed a crime, the house still had to be saved, doused with water. If not the fire could spread. “Couldn’t there have been guarantees to ensure it will not spread to other houses?” she said on Tuesday last week.
