The uproar over the bailout of Bank Century uncovered a hidden feud between Finance Minister Sri Mulyani and tycoon Aburizal Bakrie. Pressured by Golkar politicians, the Finance Department revealed a suspected tax fraud by the Bakrie business group.

NOVEMBER 20 last year was a day to remember in the life of Robert Tantular. That evening, Bank Indonesia had summoned Robert, the owner of Bank Century, a bank on the verge of collapse. At the central bank, accompanied by Bank Century's CEO Hermanus Hasan Muslim and Deputy CEO Hamidi, Robert was asked to go to the Finance Department in Central Jakarta.
