Tjokroaminoto wrote the bylaws of the Sarekat Islam and worked tirelessly to transform it into a national organization. Not surprisingly, it is Tjokro’s name that is often associated with the organization, not the founder.

IT is close to a century since Haji Oemar Said Tjokroaminoto drafted the bylaws for the Sarekat Islam or Islamic Association. At his home in Jalan Peneleh VII in Surabaya, Tjokroaminoto completed the articles of the Sarekat Islam association on September 10, 1912.
