The fate of Indonesian studies in Russia and China was at a point closely linked to the political relations Indonesia shared with both nations. The era of Indonesias founding president Sukarno translated into some of the best years of learning for experts on Indonesian studies in Russia and China. However, following the September 30 Movement which led to the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of Indonesians, as well as Sukarnos downfall, the tides turned in 1965. Classes on Indonesian studies were gradually deserted. The following series of articles takes a look at whether or not conditions have changed since, as well as how classes on Indonesian studies have mushroomed across learning centers in South Korea.
