Air traffic controllers are suspected of failing to detect the Sukhoi Superjet 100 heading in the wrong direction of the mountain. The tower was overloaded, and the pilot was unfamiliar with the terrain.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 airplane with registration number RA-36801 flew low over the skies of Bogor. Pilot Aleksandr Yablontsev had reported to the controller in the East Tower of Soekarno-Hatta airport that he wanted to descend from an altitude of 10,000 feet to 6,000 feetor from 3 km to 1.8 km above sea level. At 2:26pm, on Wednesday two weeks ago, the plane had been in the air for 14 minutes of the planned 30-minute joy flight.
