THE start of a new year was a bitter memory for Mukti Ichsan. Mere days into 2006, the container truck transporting teak wood that the furniture business owned was stopped by the police, not far from Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya. The driver proffered a Rp10,000 bill. Instead of waving him through, the police told the police to call the furniture factory that Mukti owned in Solo, asking for more.
