THE 14-poem anthology To the Party was the birthday present of 12 People's Culture Institute (Lekra) artists to the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) for its 45th birthday on May 23, 1965. It was also a special date for Lekra, its 15th anniversary.

According to Amarzan Ismail Hamid, who contributed the poem Choosing a Path, Lekra's caretakers asked all active poets in the organization to submit poems with the theme of the political party or communism
