THE Jakarta International School (JIS) came under the public spotlight following the exposure of the sexual abuse case of one of its kindergarten students. In the midst of reports and accusations of gross negligence by the school authorities, the school seemed to have retreated into silence. But after a number of attempts, JIS headmaster Timothy Carr agreed to be interviewed by Tempo. The interview was held twice, on April 25 and 29. Excerpts:
