A meeting at the home of Mohammad Hatta on the morning of 11 February 1975 got underway without any formalities. Hatta led off by asking participants, " I want to ask if you still remember, it says here that Yamin's speech was on 29 May. Is that right?"

Before anyone could reply, Bung Hatta began answering his own question. This proclaimer of Indonesian independence said that Muhammad Yamin gave a speech on the first day of the session of the Dokuritsu Zyunbi Tyoosakai or Indonesian Independence Preparatory Work Investigative Board (BPUPKI). Hatta himself had given a speech on the second day. On the fourth day, 1 June 1945, it was Bung Karno's (Sukarno) turn to give a speech.
