Rocking the Elections
Abdee Negara played a major role in raising volunteer support during this year's presidential election. He was against politicians interfering in the effort.
TODAY, Abdee Negara is not just a guitarist from rock band Slank. His presence can now be felt far beyond Gang Potlot, the headquarters of the musical group in South Jakarta. The reach of this 46-year-old is no longer limited to that stage he shares with fellow band members Kaka, Bimbim, Ridho and Ivanka, when he rocks his fans.
He has become a well-known face to political volunteers. Abdee morphed from a musician to an activist, before and after the recent presidential election. "Basically, artists were born to be activists," said Abdee, a songwriter and producer, in a discussion at the Tempo office, in early November.
