Jasmev's Warriors
Backed by 'troops' of little more than 500 members, Kartika Djoemadi led the Jasmev group to support Jokowi in his bid for the presidency. They even went against some of their former allies.
THEY call themselves Jasmev, an abbreviation of the Jokowi Advanced Social Media Volunteers, created in August 2012. Working out of a borrowed office, using rented computers and an unpaid 'army', Jasmev helped push Joko Widodo into the presidency.
The word 'advanced' emphasizes that this group of volunteers was not put together when the time of the presidential election rolled around. According to Kartika Djoemadi, its coordinator, Jasmev was formed back in 2012. At that time, Jasmev campaigned for running mates Joko Widodo-Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in the election of Jakarta's governor. Sony Subrata, president director of PoliticaWave, came up with the name.
