In the website of the National Police Commission, the announcement on candidates for the position of the national police chief, posted on Monday last week, lasted just four days. By Monday, the announcement, made to look like a news item, had been downsized and placed between links to old reports.

A senior officer of the police commission said that the announcement was initially meant to solicit opinion on the candidates' backgrounds. But it turned out to be unnecessary. Not long after that announcement, members of the Commission made their decision in a meeting at the office of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno, who is also the Commission chairman. "We discussed the options and recommendations on nominees for the police chief position," he confirmed.
