SEVEN years after he left the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), 69-year-old Taufiequrachman Ruki is now back in the saddle as acting commissioner. President Joko Widodo appointed this retired police officer to temporarily replace chairman Abraham Samad, who has been suspended because of his indictment last week by the police on charges of forging documents.
Together with attorney Indriyanto Seno Adjie and KPK Deputy for Prevention, Johan Budi Sapto Prabowo, Ruki will lead the anti-graft commission as it weathers the storm of assaults by the police. "We have been tasked with ending the conflict between the KPK and the police," Ruki told Tempo reporter, Rusman Paraqbueq, who interviewed him in his car, en route to police headquarters last week. Indriyanto and KPK Deputy Chairman Adnan Pandu Praja were also in the car.
