THE visit of her two children to Wirogunan Prison in Yogyakarta last week, was a crowning moment of happiness for Mary Jane Veloso. The day before, the Filipina was spared the firing squad at Nusakambangan Prison. She warmly embraced Mark Darren and Mark Daniel, her sons from her marriage to Michael Candelaria.

According to Harold Toledano, a pastor from the Philippines who works in Bandung and accompanied Mary Jane's family, the family reunion at Wirogunan Prison was an emotional one. "We hope that Mary Jane can truly be saved from being executed, not just have it suspended," he told Tempo.
