THROUGH its exhaustive diplomatic efforts, the Philippine government was able to secure a stay of execution for Mary Jane Veloso. The death sentence against this woman found carrying a suitcase containing 2.6 kilograms of heroin was suddenly deferred two hours before her scheduled execution early Wednesday morning last week.
